When Goddess Sati sacrificed herself in the sacred yagna of King Daksha, her soul was reborn as Goddess Parvati, daughter of Kind Himavan and Queen Menavati. Known as Shailaputri—the Daughter of the Mountain—she is the first form of the Adi Shakti among the Navadurga, embodying divine strength, purity, and the eternal foundation of all creation.
On Day One of Navratri, we bow to Shailaputri Mata, the beginning of all beginnings. She is the root of inner strength, purity, and discipline. By worshipping her, we invite stability, courage, and a strong spiritual foundation. With devotion, she blesses us to walk the nine sacred nights with unwavering faith, guiding us towards divine transformation.
Devi Shailaputri rides Nandi, earning her the name Vrisharudha (one who rides the sacred bull). In her right hand, she holds the Trishul (Trident), destroying evil and balancing the cosmos. In her left, the Lotus blooms, a symbol of purity, awakening, and inner beauty. Each divine symbol whispers her eternal promise of protection and guidance.
