Goddess Brahmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga in Hinduism, a manifestation of Parvati who, in her previous incarnation as Sati, was born in the house of Prajapati Daksha. After Sati’s self-immolation, she was reborn as Parvati (daughter of the Himalayas). Following the guidance of sages like Narada, she underwent severe penance (tapasya), ascetic austerity, and spiritual discipline to win Lord Shiva as her consort. In this unmarried, ascetic aspect she is worshipped as Brahmacharini—‘one who walks the path of Brahma / absolute reality’ in penance, spiritual learning, and devotion.

On the second day (Dwitiya) of Navratri, Hindu devotees venerate Goddess Brahmacharini because she embodies deep penance (tapasya), pure devotion (bhakti), perseverance, austerity, and spiritual discipline.
